The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has been supporting our community with free of charge aeromedical rescue services since 1975 and this year marks 40 years of our Service. The New England North West commenced operations in 2000 based out of Tamworth. In December 2014 the Service was announced the successful tenderer to provide aeromedical services to Northern NSW from three bases Newcastle, Tamworth and Lismore. The Tamworth based Service carries out over 260 missions per year and the support of our community and corporate partners “no one has ever had to pay to be assisted”.
All funds raised in our New England North West region stay in our region to support the work of the Service and are set for each base. Our operational budget for the New England North West is $3.4 million per year and approximately 50% of these funds are provided by the generosity of our community the remaining 50% is provided by the NSW Health department.
We have 14 volunteer communities groups supporting and promoting the work of the Service through out our region as well as other initiatives to help raise the funds required to keep our Service free of charge to those in need.
